Nostalgia as a perspective is starting to frighten me, 2024-25

$5,600.00

"My current series of paintings continues an exploration of abstraction as a tool to record emotion, memory and the tension between control and instinct. Working with oil, oil stick and acrylic, I build up the surface in a structured palette of muted, earthy tones with punching flashes of vivid, sometimes fluorescent colors. From the abstraction, figurative elements emerge briefly before dissolving back into gesture, compositionally feeling raw yet identifiable. These moments inspire poetic phrases—deeply personal yet resonating on a broader scale. Feelings of angst, elation, honor and horror are expressed as quick, visual-epiphanies. While they relate to the outside world, these thoughts remain ultimately intimate, meant to be understood in this way." - Andrew Agutos (2025)
